Elevating Industrial Needs to Shape Seattle’s Business Climate
SIA played a central role in supporting the City of Seattle’s business climate assessment, partnering with the Office of Economic Development and its consulting team to ensure the manufacturing and maritime sectors were strongly represented. Leveraging its industry network, SIA convened a targeted group of industrial sector leaders representing metal fabrication & machinery, clean technology manufacturing, maritime transportation, and industrial manufacturing - ensuring that real-world business perspectives were at the forefront of the analysis.
Through strategic outreach and a curated small group discussion, SIA created a high-value forum for industry leaders to share firsthand insights on operating in Seattle’s evolving economic environment. These conversations surfaced critical challenges, including limited communication and coordination across City departments, difficulty identifying points of contact and navigating City processes, barriers to collaboration on projects aligned with City priorities, and ongoing uncertainty around permitting timelines and regulatory requirements.
SIA’s leadership ensured that the voice of the industrial sector was not only included, but meaningfully integrated into a citywide effort to inform future tax, regulatory, and economic development policy. The input gathered through SIA’s convening efforts will directly inform recommendations to the Mayor and City Council, reinforcing SIA’s role as a trusted partner and influential advocate for shaping policies that impact industrial businesses.
