Holding Seattle Accountable to Its Freight Commitments

Freight mobility is essential to Seattle's industrial economy, yet transportation decisions increasingly reduce the efficiency of the corridors industrial sectors depend on every day.

In response, SIA convened a coalition of maritime, industrial, freight, labor, and business organizations to ensure the industrial community spoke with one clear and credible voice.

The coalition formally called on the Seattle Department of Transportation to reaffirm its commitment to implementing the City's adopted freight-priority policies on designated Major Truck Streets after raising concerns that the East Marginal Way S project advanced without clearly demonstrating consistency with those policies.

The letter also requested greater transparency into how freight impacts are evaluated, a collaborative framework for reviewing projects affecting Seattle's freight network, and that SDOT pause completion of the East Marginal Way S final design until outstanding freight policy and technical concerns have been fully evaluated and addressed.

This effort demonstrates SIA's ability to translate complex technical issues into coordinated advocacy that decision-makers cannot ignore. By organizing stakeholders, elevating industry expertise, and advocating for policies that protect the movement of goods, SIA continues to establish itself as Seattle's trusted voice on industrial and freight policy.
